TexTool

The TexTool is a multi-textile tool that implements various textile production methods. The inspiration was a Swiss Army knife, but for traditional textile techniques. I wanted to create something that is a memento to our roots and culture as humans. All cultures in the world have some kind of textile production—we all dress in clothes or are using textiles in some form. Understanding where these come from, and having a tool that empowers people to use these techniques to fix or produce small pieces of textiles, intrigued me and was also part of the design brief.

This project started when I was studying in Sweden. Our task was to think about sustainable materials and old techniques that were used in the past. I organized a trip with classmates to a village where a linen museum showcases the traditional technique of creating textile — from plant to spinning, all the way to the finished product. My interest was cought and I was able to visit the Boras textile school in Sweden, which is completely dedicated to different textile techniques. I was fascinated by the weaving and knitting machines as well as the different outcomes they can create. The machines ranged from old to very new.
