Daily Bag

The motivation for this private project was to create a bag that I would personally love to use. I searched for fanny packs in stores but was unsatisfied with their quality; each one had at least one feature I didn’t like or felt incomplete. The more I liked a bag, the more expensive it became, and even then it didn’t convince me enough to buy it. I wanted a practical way to attach items, as well as to secure a jacket without it constantly slipping off. I created the sewing pattern myself and produced the bag using rainproof materials. I have been using the bag for about a year now.

After the ideation sketches, I created several paper prototypes to better understand the shape and size in three dimensions. I also made sewing samples using a blue lining to evaluate the material and to check whether my domestic sewing machine could handle it.Afterward, I refined the paper pattern, transferred it to fabric, and began sewing. I decided to use a lining because some bags—even expensive ones—start to fray over time, or the interior coating of single-layer materials deteriorates.

I researched various fasteners online and discovered the company Fidlock, which produces innovative magnetic fasteners. I was impressed by their designs and contacted them to ask whether they could provide samples. They sent me a selection of their products for evaluation. Magnetic fasteners allow quick access to pockets, and belts can be opened easily when needed.
